I’ve been a fan of The Kickdrums since I first heard their David Axelrod flipping “Just A Game” in 2009. But Fitts & Tilla have been on their grind a lot longer than that and their discography is crazy. They’ve produced for 50 Cent, Chamillionaire, Joell Ortiz, Little Brother, Ray Cash, Ben Harper, and Good Charlotte, to name a handful of their credits.
On Feb 21st, I’m dropping their ‘Something’s Gotta Give” EP on 11 Inch Records. (It includes remixes by Kutcorners, Sammy Bananas, Emynd, Sticky Noodles, Audience, and Skinny Friedman.) But first! It’s time for a look back at some of my favorite of their jams. With appearances by the RZA, Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Joell Ortiz, Wale, Young Chris, and Peter Bjorn & John, I give you The Kickdrums at their finest.

It’s been mad long since I dropped “50 Minutes of Fresh”, my ode to the genius of Mannie Fresh, but the Village Voice picked up on it yesterday and spread a little love to get folks ready for Fresh’s guest spot at reOPENed last night. In case you missed the mix, here it is one mo’ gin, along with the Voice’s perfect synopsis of the tape.
The good homie, Rob Pursey, just killed another mix of some of my favorite jams. I’ll let him explain: “Here’s just a little mix I did of those bedroom bangers that ruled our world in a different time and place – the 90s – and something for the ladies and the sensitive thugs out there to relate to. Mixed live as always, this is all about some downtempo business from the greatest RnB artists of the decade. Simple.
Enjoy!”

Tracklist & more after the jump
Sure Shot, Lindsey, Myles & myself just finished up a little mix to spread the FAM musical vibes. Check the full tracklist after the jump & check us every Thursday at Von (3 Bleecker Street btwn Bowery & Lafayette in the basement).
Almost two weeks ago, I jumped on a very early flight (after a long night at The Rub in Brooklyn) to head out to L.A. to play Aloe, Haycock, and Strong’s Do-Over party, as well as a bunch of other awesome parties on the west coast. As always, they recorded the sets. While mine gets a little sloppy at times, it gets at what’s possible to play at the Do-Over and how much fun it is. So, lean back, kick your feet up, and grab the set here. (Make sure to check out Quantic, J-Boogie, and Anonymous’ sets from the same date here.)
Special thanks go to Aloe Blacc, J-Boogie, and Suprema One for the singing on the mic, yelling on the mic, and all around party motivating. You check out all the great sets from this season at http://blog.thedoover.net/
I’ve been trying to slow down on the mixtapes in the last year or so, but haven’t been succeeding so well. But in that time, I’ve also been pretty bad about amassing them in an organized way. So, I did just that. Click on over to the MUSIC page & you’ll find all the mixes for sale, going back YEARS, plus a ton of the promo only & live sets I’ve done recently. Enjoy responsibly & share with a friend!
The homie DJ mOma and I ran our Special Delivery party for about 1 week short of a year, until APT was forced to close down. It was a sad day. But, life goes on. Fortunately, we’ve still got the promo mixes/remixes floating around. If you missed them, check after the jump:

With the old press page in permanent Han Solo-esque deep freeze, here’s some new press:
New York Magazine recognized our little FAM party as one of THE parties to check out in the city. Thanks guys! http://nymag.com/nightlife/wheretodrink/2010/dance-parties/
One friend in particular at The Village Voice had this to say about one Thursday in particular: http://blogs.villagevoice.com/music/archives/2010/04/thursday_night.php
The good folks at one of the internet’s best named blogs added my Devin mix to their interview with the man himself. Check it out at http://nerdtorious.com/2010/05/14/duderonomy-devin-the-dude-qa-dj-eleven-mix/
Shouts to the folks from Themes for Young Lovers for having me contribute a set of silly answers to some questions. (Plus I got to put this ridiculous photo to good use!) You can check out my blah blah blah at ThemesForYoungLovers.blogspot.com
The crack commando squad at Suite 903 called up The Rub dudes and asked us to come through & wax poetical about what we do, soul music, and all kinds of other good stuff. You can check it out here: www.suite903.com/2010/03/31/video-interview-with-the-rub-djs/#more-5378
New York Magazine shouted out The Rub’s History of Hip Hop (HOHH) series. (While mistakenly giving Ayres all the credit. Bastards!) http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2010/07/download_rap_highlights_from_e.html
The good folks at Letsmix.com let us ramble a little bit about HOHH
